If you were anywhere near social media the night of the 57th NAACP Image Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, you already know what we’re going to talk about. Chloe and Halle Bailey walked that red carpet in two completely different looks and managed to make the whole thing look like it was planned down to the last detail, even though nothing about their outfits matched.
Chloe arrived in a floor-length black dress and from the moment she stepped out, it was clear that this was not going to be an easy red carpet moment. The base was sheer net, layered with large velvet floral appliqués – leaves and blossoms cascading from the bodice all the way to the hem, sheer pieces at the waist and thighs added a boldness that never once tipped over into too much. Then there were the sculptural, off-the-shoulder wings on the neckline, sharp and angular, pushing the whole look into territory that a regular red carpet dress just doesn’t occupy.
Stylist Jason RemberI had a clear vision here and I didn’t give up on it. The jewelry was a delicate silver necklace and gold bracelet, deliberately simple as the dress already carried all the weight of the look. Hair by The Art of Hair by Fesa Nu and makeup by Arianna Garcia he brought it all home—dark, lush, and so full of Chloe that it’s hard to imagine looking at anyone else.

Halle entered in a deep chocolate brown Stéphane Rolland dress, and the room had no choice but to pay attention. The dress was sleek and fitted all the way through, but the oversized scalloped collar – rising around her face and shoulders like a wide, sweeping halo – made her look something else entirely. And if that wasn’t enough, large irregular white abstract shapes ran down the front of the dress from the waist to the floor, turning the entire silhouette into something that was closer to art than clothing.
Stylist Bryon Javar stands behind the look, and every detail has its place. Silver earrings by Le Vian Jewelry had an organic, irregular shape that quietly echoed the white abstract detailing on the dress, tying the whole look together without drawing attention to itself. Makeup from Christiana Cassell she kept her face clean and precise, making sure that nothing diverted the focus from the architecture of the dress.

Now we want to know — if you had a sister, would you both show up to an event like this and do your own thing, trusting that everything will work out in the end? Or are you the type to coordinate down to the last detail? Because after seeing Chloe and Halle, we’re totally convinced that a separate-but-equally-stunning approach could be the right move.
