There are mountains that do not seek fame, do not appear in the most famous guides and do not attract crowds of hikers. Yet, precisely for this reason, they manage to retain a simple and authentic charm. The Mount Blumwhich rises above Rovetta in Val Seriana, is one of these. Where is Mount Blum located?
Monte Blum is located in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo, in the heart of Val Seriana, above the Clusone plateau. It is a wooded relief that extends between the municipalities of Rovetta and Clusone, easily reachable from both towns via paths and forest roads. It is not a high or isolated Alpine peak, but a local mountain surrounded by greenery, very popular for walks and short excursions. Its position makes it an ideal destination for those seeking nature and tranquility not far from the town centre, with accessible routes and views of the plateau and Presolana.
How to get to Monte Blum
Monte Blum can be reached exclusively on foot via hiking routes, also suitable for those who are not experts, from the municipalities of Rovetta and Clusone, which are the main starting points.
In general, however, to get there you follow a very simple itinerary: you reach Rovetta or Clusone by car and park near the town center or the higher hamlets.
From there you continue on foot along a network of well-marked paths and forest roadswhich gradually rise through the woods to the Monte Blum area and the Chapel of the Alpini.
It is an ideal destination for a short, scenic and easily accessible walk from the valley. The path is surrounded by nature and passes mainly through woods, with regular slopes and without exposed sections.
Monte Blu, normal route from Rovetta
Our journey to Mount Blum begins in Rovettaa village located between Clusone and Presolana. Here the mountain is not something distant: it is a constant presence, already visible among the houses, in the alleys that go up, in the air that changes as soon as you move away from the center.
We often leave on foot directly from the town. You can leave your car in via Pezzoli, near the Alpini headquarters and start climbing the normal route, a agro-forestry-pastoral road which progressively transforms into a forest path.
The surface is dirt, sometimes compact, sometimes softer. There are no exposed passages or dangerous sections. It is a route that invites you to walk slowly, rather than “climb”. The forest accompanies almost the entire journey.
We were there at the beginning of May and it wasn’t too hot but even in summer the trees create shade and allow you to tackle the climb with peace of mind. The difference in altitude is not excessive, but still suitable for trained legs because it is constant.
Going up from Rovetta towards Monte Blum along the normal route, at times the forest opens up slightly, allowing glimpses of the Clusone plateau or the more distant mountains. They are short, almost sudden openings that interrupt the dense green of the trees and remind you that you are gaining altitude.
Chapel of the Alpini on Monte Blum
After about 60-90 minutes of walking you reach one of the most significant points of the route: the Chapel of the Alpini.
It is not an imposing construction. On the contrary, it is simple, discreet, almost hidden in the landscape. Yet it has a strong presence, which you perceive as soon as you arrive.
Around the chapel there is a larger space, with lawns and a small natural panoramic point. This is where many hikers stop: some to rest, some to eat something, others simply to watch.
From this point the view opens onto the Seriana Valley and the Clusone plateau. On clear days you can clearly recognize the lines of the Presolana mountains, while towards the valley you can glimpse the scattered villages.
The chapel is also a place of memory, linked to the Alpine tradition. It is not just a stage of the route, but a point that invites silence, even for a few minutes.
Monte Blum from Rovetta: best period
One of the most interesting aspects of Mount Blum is that the same trail changes completely depending on the time of year.
In spring the forest awakens: the undergrowth fills with green, the air is fresh and light, and the first colors return to dot the landscape. It is perhaps the most “lively” moment of the climb.
In summer, however, the route becomes a natural refuge from the heat of the valley. The shade of the trees makes walking pleasant even in the central hours of the day, and the forest almost becomes a cool and silent corridor.
Autumn is probably the most scenic season. The leaves are tinged with yellow, red and orange, and the path seems to change atmosphere at every bend. It is the moment when Monte Blum shows its most poetic side.
In winter, however, everything becomes more essential. Snow can cover the path and transform the landscape into something completely different, more rarefied and silent. It is a season that requires attention, but which also offers a completely different mountain.
Where to sleep in Rovetta
Monte Blum from Rovetta, along the normal route, is one of those hikes that don’t try to impress with spectacularity, but still manage to leave a lasting impression. The climb to the Cappella degli Alpini is short, accessible and immersed in a natural context that continually changes face. It is a journey that is not measured in difficulty, but in sensations. And perhaps this is precisely its greatest value: remembering that the mountain is not always made up of great undertakings, but also of simple steps, silent woods and places that invite you to stop, even just for a moment.
