The Kano State Government claims that the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso could indirectly contribute to efforts that could favor president Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The charge was made by the Director General of Media and Publicity in the Government of Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofaduring an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, where he talked about emerging political connections and behind-the-scenes maneuvers ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, political support for the president does not always have to be visible because some actors operate openly and others discreetly within the political space.
“There are those who work for Tinuba openly in the public space and there are those who can work behind the scenes for Tinuba,” said Bature.
He further argued that Kwankwaso’s political activities could ultimately benefit the President, citing the dynamics of the 2023 election.
“I believe that whatever Kwankwaso is doing will ultimately benefit Tinubu because Kwankwaso was working for Tinubu in 2023.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he added that the ruling party would be more direct in its support for the president, while he argued that the NNPP leader could still be indirectly aligned.
“In 2027 we will work for Tinuba directly and openly as members of the APC but I believe Kwankwaso is also working for Tinuba behind the scenes.”
The comments come amid increasing political speculation and shifting alliances in the run-up to 2027, particularly in Kano state, a key electoral battleground in northern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in the Kwankwasiyya political movement, has not issued any public response to the allegations.
