‘He died childless after 10 years of marriage’

The family Michael Oyedokun, an Oyo State teacher who was abducted and later killed by terrorists, has expressed deep grief over his death, revealing that he died childless after more than 10 years of marriage.

Oyedokun was among the teachers abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Schools attacked in Oyo community

The attack reportedly took place during a raid at Ahoro-Esiele Secondary School, where gunmen abducted several teachers.

Other affected schools included Baptist Kindergarten and Elementary School, Yawota and LA Elementary School in Ogbomoso.

The attacks also claimed the lives of an assistant director, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist.

Following the incident, the Oyo State Government ordered the closure of schools in the affected areas as security agencies intensified rescue operations.

A disturbing video later surfaced online showing the late teacher tied up and speaking under duress before he was killed, sparking outrage and fear across the country.

His family describes him as calm and devoted

Speaking on behalf of the family during the visit, Ebeni Adediran described Oyedokun as a calm and humble man who had devoted more than two decades of his life to teaching.

He said the deceased attended Oke Ogun before he relocated and was later transferred back to his hometown last year.

According to him, the late teacher remained close to his family and often visited his parents regularly.

He was a peaceful person and did not like violence.” he said.

“He went to primary school, later attended Ogbomoso Baptist High School and continued his education after high school. He was employed as a teacher for about 21 years.

“He first worked in Oke Ogun before he relocated. He was brought back home last year. He was very accommodating and since he came back to our community, he always visited his parents at least once within 15 days or every weekend.”

“Irreparable loss” – The family talks about the pain

The family said Oyedokun’s death has created a great vacuum because of his personality and closeness with his relatives.

He was a good man in our family and that is why his death is a great loss for us, an irreparable loss. His death is painful. We cannot even describe his death.” the family said.

“He didn’t have a child after 10 years of marriage” – the regret of the family

The family further revealed that the most heartbreaking part of the tragedy was that he died childless despite being married for over a decade.

“And the most painful thing is that he didn’t leave behind a child. He had a wife, but they didn’t have a child,” the family said.

“They were married for more than 10 years and despite all their efforts, no child came out of the marriage. And now the same man has died and there is no child to continue his lineage.”

The family appeals for respect and privacy

The family also pleaded with Nigerians to stop circulating graphic videos and pictures of the deceased, saying it aggravated their grief.

We truly appreciate the love, care and compassion for our family during this painful time,” the family said.

“However, the continuous circulation of these videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family.

“His loved ones and all of us, his nieces, nephews, cousins and cousins, are emotionally devastated, especially as this content continues to surface on social media.”
